The Best Experiences in Samoa for Couples

Majestic jewels jutting in verdant greens from the South Pacific Ocean, Samoa is a breathtaking array of volcanic islands, lagoons and the odd sandy islet that offer some of the most stunning backdrops for a romantic getaway. But the scenery of this tropical paradise is just the beginning. Not only does Samoa offer a stunning array of couple-centric accommodations but there are plenty of experiences to be shared and memories to be made. Whether you’re an adventurous couple or are simply looking for ways to relax together, this curation of the most romantic things to do in Samoa conveys experiences suitable for any twosome.

While you’re here, don’t forget to bookmark The Wedding, Honeymoon & Romantic Getaway Guide to Samoa with more couple-centric holiday advice.

1. Spend the Day on an Uninhabited Island

Samoa might be known for its main islands of Upolu and Savai’i, but did you know that there are other tiny uninhabited islands to explore? These provide a truly tranquil and romantic setting for a day out. Take a picnic and perhaps a bottle of bubbles and jump on the water taxi to Namu’a Island (or even stay overnight?), join Le Vasa Resort‘s guided tour to Nu’ulopa Island, or paddle a kayak with Outdoor Samoa to Nu’usafe’e Island.

Even if you don’t get the entire island to yourselves, the islands hardly feel crowded and, in fact, just walking around the island will likely reveal a hidden beach to enjoy all to yourselves. You never know, it could be the perfect place to “pop the question”? Speaking of, see our Samoa Proposal Ideas for more on the subject.

Location: All of the islands listed above are accessed from Upolu. See the links on each island listed above to see the multiple options to get to them. Otherwise, check out the 10 Best Island Day Trips from Upolu.

2. Indulge in a Relaxing Couple’s Massage

Share in a soothing experience with one of Samoa’s heavenly couple’s massages. The spas that are renowned on the island for their couples’ treatments include A Touch of Samoa, Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa and Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa, but there are many more to choose from which you can discover in the 10 Best Places to Get a Massage in Samoa.

Location: All over Samoa but mainly on  Upolu. See the link above for specific locations.

3. Treat Your Loved One to a Private Dining Experience

To elevate your dining experience, perhaps to celebrate a special occasion, treat each other to one to one of Samoa’s private dining experiences. Indulge in a three-course dinner with bubbles either on your room’s balcony or by the beach at Taumeasina Island Resort or Le Lagoto Resort, choose a private decorated setting at Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa or have a candlelit dinner with personal waiting service on the deck of your luxury villa at Seabreeze Resort. See more ideas like this in the 10 Best Activities in Samoa for Adults.

Location: Taumeasina – Taumeasina Road, off Main East Coast Road, Apia. Sinalei Reef – Signposted off Main South Coast Road between Mulivai and Si’umu on Upolu. Le Lagoto – Fagamalo village on the northeast coast of Savia’i. Seabreeze – Signposted along Main South Coast Road, Aufaga, Upolu.

4. Visit Samoa’s Most Romantic Beaches…

It’s probably likely that you chose a South Pacific getaway to spend some time at the beach and we can’t blame you; there’s something effortlessly romantic about the soft sands and turquoise waters. Lalomanu Beach on Upolu with its marine reserve is a popular go-to with many day fales to choose from, while Falealupo Beach on Savai’i is often described as one of the most picturesque beaches in Samoa (learn about paying customary fees for beaches using day fales in the 10 Best Beaches in Samoa). If you’re looking for less crowded beaches, however, we highly recommend the hidden gems of Vavau Beach or, even more secluded (4WD access only) Aganoa Beach.

Location: All over Samoa! See the link above for the specific locations of Samoa’s beast beaches.

5. … And Breathtaking Swimming Holes

As famous (or perhaps more) than Samoa’s glorious beaches are its paradisical swimming holes. Like something out of a tropical fairy tale, the To Sua Ocean Trench amazes with its verdant vines twining down a coastal sinkhole to a turquoise pool below. There’s also the rejuvenating crystal-clear freshwater of the Piula Cave Pool. And if you wanted some waterfalls in the mix, Afu Aau Waterfall, Togitogiga Waterfall and Sauniatu Waterfall all offer excellent swimming.

Location: All over Samoa! See the locations of the attractions mentioned in the 10 Best Swimming Spots in Samoa.

6. Buddy Up on a Scuba Diving Excursion

Vibrant coral gardens, dramatic canyons, swim throughs and deep pinnacles; there are many exciting adventures to be had in the waters surrounding Upolu, Savai’i and the nearby Manono island – and you know what divers say: it’s safer to go with a “buddy”. Pure Ocean offers a range of dive trips to get to these untouched pieces of paradise, with morning and afternoon boats, two-tank dives and the Tava’e wreck dive of a 30 m (98ft) tug boat.

Alternatively, Dive Savai’i can take you to turtle territory or the fascinating John Williams V wreck dive. There is so much to unpack when it comes to diving, so check out The Best Scuba Diving in Samoa. Additionally, strengthen the bond by learning how to dive together, which you can find more information about in Learn to Dive in Samoa: Where to Get Your Scuba Diving Certification.

Location: Pure Ocean – Sheraton Samoa Beach Resort, signposted off Main West Coast Road at the western end of Faleolo International Airport, Upolu. Dive Savai’i – Fagamalo village (opposite the Le Lagoto Resort) on the northeast coast of Savai’i.

7. Discover Samoa’s Romantic Coastal Walk

Leave the beaches behind and discover another side of Upolu on the serene and secluded Coastal Walk. Protected within the O Le Pupu Pu’e National Park, the one-hour return walk winds its way through lush pandanus forest before emerging on rocky lava cliffs. With the waves crashing below, seabirds occupying the horizon, and a number of coastal sea arches to uncover as you walk, this certainly is a special place to share with your loved one. What’s more, it’s rare to stumble into anyone else at this secluded piece of paradise, making the Coastal Walk an endearing location for that sense of having the place to yourselves. For more walks to enjoy together, check out the 15 Best Walks & Hikes in Samoa.

Location: Signposted along Main South Coast Road between Sa’agafou and Saleilua on Upolu. Note that the 3 km (1.9 mi) road to get to the trail car park is a 4WD road but 2WD is usually Ok if taken with care.

8. Test Your Teamwork in a Double Kayak

You don’t know whether you’re made for each other until you have proven it by navigating a kayak together! Just about every beach accommodation in Samoa has kayaks for hire, while Outdoor Samoa runs some more adventurous excursions, so have a go and explore the lagoons and surrounding islands! You may also want to take some snorkelling gear to make the most of those outer clusters of coral. Be careful of tidal passages near the reef entrances.

While you’re waiting for the sunset, check out the ancient star mound, a cave and a historical well situated just across the road (learn more in the 15 Best Historical Sites in Samoa). If there’s a guide around, pay your entry fees and they can share the legends of the site. Otherwise, an interpretation panel stands at the entrance.
