Mountain bike hire is pretty limited in Samoa, with just one bike rental operation and a couple of accommodations hiring out bicycles. This could well be due to the fact that the islands in Samoa are quite large and take multiple days to cycle around, therefore, is not most travellers’ transport method of choice – see The Cycling Times & Distances in Samoa. Bicycle Hire with Outdoor Samoa

Certainly not the first time we’ll mention these guys in this guide on where to rent bikes in Samoa, Outdoor Samoa is the largest bicycle rental and tour operator in the country. They have around 100 bicycles at their base on the western shores of Upolu, offering day and multi-day freedom bicycle hire.

Among the offering, Outdoor Samoa rents out GT Avalanche and GT Agressor mountain bikes configured for touring Samoa, as well as Schwinn Sierra step-through bikes for a more comfortable riding position. If you have little ones in tow, 24″ and 26″ bikes with Trailgators and tow lines are also available.

Outdoor Samoa also offers bicycle accessories for hire, such as panniers, tag-a-long and child-trailers, kiddy seats and follow-me devices. All rentals include a bike bag at the front and helmets.

Accommodations with Bike Hire in Samoa

The options are few and far in between when it comes to bicycle hire at resorts and accommodations in Samoa. That’s not to say bike hire doesn’t exist, as Return to Paradise Resort has a selection of quality adult mountain bikes available for guests and day visitors to hire for a reasonable fee. On the island of Savai’i, Va-i-Moana Seaside Lodge promotes bicycle rental at their accommodation on the secluded northwestern shores of Asau Bay. Their rental prices are some of the cheapest on the islands. For both accommodations, we cannot vouch for the quality, simply because the Samoa Pocket Guide team hasn’t seen the bikes. Similarly, Stevensons at Manase is another resort on the island with bikes for hire; a relatively modern fleet with helmets available.

E-Bike Hire in Samoa

For a little power to the peddle, electric bikes and mountain bikes are also an option for cycling in Samoa. With a few tricky uphills or to simply not overexert yourself in the hot Samoan sun, e-bikes are certainly a worthwhile consideration.
