1. Seabreeze Resort

You may have seen in The Complete Luxury Guide to Samoa how Samoa doesn’t do luxury to the standards you might expect in the South Pacific. Well, Seabreeze Resort is the exception.

This adults-only boutique resort boasts just 13 contemporary villas, ranging from elegant rooms by the infinity pool to the elevated “Honeymoon Point Villa” with its private plunge pool and stunning bay views.

Indulge in a couples’ massage, explore the lagoon in clear-bottom kayaks, or savour a meal at The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar. For a more intimate experience, enjoy lunch poolside, where the Pool Bar offers both a snack menu and main menu items.

With its picturesque setting and attentive service, Seabreeze Resort offers an unparalleled luxury experience in Samoa. (You’ll find more about the dining in our 5 Best Fine Dining Restaurants in Samoa.)

2. Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa

Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa offers a luxurious and romantic beachfront escape on Upolu. Indulge in a full buffet breakfast and daily afternoon tea, or unwind with a complimentary 15-minute massage at the Tui–I–Lagi Spa.

Adventure seekers will love the free kayaks and snorkel gear, perfect for exploring the pristine waters. Golfers can tee off at the resort’s 9-hole course, while fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the sauna, gym, and tennis courts.

Once a week, the resort hosts a culture day complete with foodie experiences, such as a fiafia night, ava ceremony, tapa making and umu cooking. They also offer a “fish and cook” package with a local fishing charter.

As the sun sets, make your way to the Ava I Toga Restaurant for a delightful culinary experience.

Stays of five nights or more include free transfers, making it even easier to enjoy this slice of paradise.

3. Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa

Through the water garden entrance and past the open restaurant, lagoon-facing swimming pool and real lagoon beyond are Samoa’s only true overwater bungalows connected by a winding walkway.

Definitely Coconut Beach Club‘s most attractive offering, the overwater bungalows maximise individual privacy with expansive sun decks, airy bedrooms with king-sized beds, and an ensuite with rock wall interiors and a sunken bathtub.

Alternatively, retreat to dry land in one of the spacious beachfront “fales” (more like a luxurious villa than a fale) with lava rock bathrooms and attractive bamboo furniture.

Nestled in the gardens are also the lavish “Royal Villas”, two storeys of luxury complete with in-the-ground bathtubs and an observatory balcony accessed by a spiral staircase. Note that the resort does not accept any guests aged three years or under.

While Coconuts is the most upmarket overwater accommodation, check out alternatives in the 5 Best Overwater Bungalows in Samoa.

The resort caters to various travellers, with spacious family villas soon to become your home away from home. For those seeking a touch of luxury, the “Matai Villa” impresses with its outdoor garden bathroom and stone bath.

Exclusive to guests, the resort provides car and scooter rentals, perfect for exploring the island at your own pace. If you prefer guided adventures, the resort organises a variety of island excursions.

Families will appreciate the kids clubs available on request, while the on-site restaurant and bar offer an airy setting for fresh local flavours with an international twist.

5. Taumeasina Island Resort

Its own private island yet moments away from Apia‘s bustling city centre, Taumeasina Island Resort is the perfect go-to for travellers who want to be close to the action. It is also Upolu’s largest resort, so you won’t be stuck for things to do between the two resort pools, Fofo Spa & Sauna, tennis courts, watersports equipment and very popular fiafia nights (see the 10 Best Cultural Shows (Fiafia) in Samoa).

There are three restaurants on-site to choose from, although they’re not our favourite at least you’re never too far from Apia’s finest places to wine and dine.

As for rooms, the “Oceanview Hotel Rooms” will meet the requirements of most guests, boasting contemporary interiors of what you would expect of an international-style hotel. Alternatively, treat yourself to the full home-away-from-home experience in one of the two- or three-bedroom villas complete with a modern kitchen and plenty of space for your family or group.

6. Aga Reef Resort

Your most upmarket offering at the highly sought-after Lalomanu end of Upolu, Aga Reef Resort offers a selection of contemporary hotel-style rooms and lagoon-front villas.

Although it doesn’t have much of a beach itself, it has several endearing spots to share with your loved one or friends between its private island connected to the mainland by a pier walkway and its public areas like its airy bar and restaurant behind the infinity pool.

You may want to treat yourself to a “Deluxe Villa” with its very own private outdoor plunge pool, ensuite with a twin vanity and standalone bathtub, and a high-ceiling bedroom with large ranch sliders soaking in the ocean views. According to Samoa Pocket Guide’s editor-in-chief, Laura, these villas offer an unparalleled luxury experience in Samoa.

Otherwise, the timber-lined “Waterfront Villas” are nothing to snuff at, providing unbeatable reef views while watching the sunrise or sunset.

Offering the convenience of its location near the airport and wharf with ferry connections to Savai’i, Samoa Beach Resort is an enticing escape on Upolu. Set on the turquoise waters of Mulifanua with stunning beaches just steps away, this waterfront resort sits on the western coast only five minutes from Faleolo International Airport.

Relax by the lagoon-style pool complete with a pool bar, or unwind at the full-service hotel spa (currently operating from two bungalows, so book ahead!). Dine at four on-site restaurants offering authentic local cuisine, from the South Pacific Restaurant to Apolima Fale, or sip hand-crafted cocktails at Solent Bar overlooking scenic views.

Retire to upscale accommodations featuring private balconies with ocean views, plush bedding, complimentary WiFi, flat-screen TVs and spacious work areas. The resort also offers a world-class fitness centre, daily housekeeping and modern venues perfect for business or social events.

8. Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows

Nestled in the heart of Apia, Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows offers a blend of luxury and Samoan culture that you’ll love. With 175 rooms, including bungalows scattered throughout lush gardens, you’ll find accommodation to suit your style.

For a taste of opulence, don’t miss the luxurious suites with balconies overlooking Apia Harbour. (The Presidential suite even hosted King Charles – how’s that for a royal seal of approval?)

Take a refreshing dip in one of the two pools, or treat yourself to some pampering at the minimalist spa. With excellent disabled facilities, everyone can enjoy a comfortable stay here.

While the standard hotel-style rooms might lack character, the bungalows capture that quintessential Samoan feel we personally love. From what we’ve experienced, Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s is perfect for travellers seeking a luxurious base to explore the vibrant capital.
