The Top Bars, Beach Bars and Nightclubs in Samoa

Cooling yourself with a refreshing mojito in the hot Samoan sun or partying with friends, locals and a tower of Taula or Vailima: Samoa‘s bars come with all sorts of experiences to suit your vibe.

Samoa’s capital, Apia, is an obvious go-to for late-night antics, but even some pretty epic nightclubs can be found on the more “traditional” island of Savai’i.

On the other hand, this wouldn’t be the South Pacific without a cocktail in your hand and your toes in the sand, so there are plenty of bars for those sundowners too.

Check out Samoa’s eclectic array of watering holes, and which ones to stop by on your island getaway, with this list of the best bars in Samoa!

Oh, and while you’re here, you might also want to get stuck into The Ultimate Guide to Samoa Nightlife for more advice to keep the holiday highs still going after dark.

Table of Contents

1. The Edge Marina (Upolu)

If you were wondering where people go to party in Samoa’s capital, this is it! Your evening and late-night entertainment are sorted at The Edge Marina with three different bars/nightclubs to choose from: the Mixology Bar, NXT Nightclub and The Deck.

Relax with a cocktail, local beer, spirits, wine or just about whatever floats your boat as you watch the, well, boats from The Edge’s deck. You can also get the best-priced cocktails in Apia during happy hour between 4 pm and 7 pm.

On Fridays and Saturdays, don’t miss the party at NXT Nightclub with local DJs and deck parties from 8 pm.

Apia has many more nightclubs, so check them out in The Guide to Apia & Upolu Nightlife + 5 Things to Do on Upolu at Night.

Location: Matautu-Tai Road, Apia (by the Apia Marina).

2. Vaiula Beach Fales’ Bar & Cafe (Upolu)

When looking for a beach destination for some sundowners or a refreshing local beer, check out some of Upolu‘s beach fale accommodations, many of which also have their own bar.

Vailula Beach Fales‘ Bar & Cafe is a popular choice! Lining the sands of Tafatafa Beach, the beach bar with hammocks and picnic tables scattered between a shady deck and the sands serves a range of cocktails, seven different local beers and soft drinks.

You can even sober up with a pizza, burger or toasted sandwich.

Learn more about staying at one of their beach fales in the 20 Best Beach Fale Accommodations in Samoa.

Location: Note that Vaiula Beach Fales is not at Tafatafa village. The turnoff to the beach is signposted along Main South Coast Road at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Malaemalu on the south coast of Upolu.

3. Harbourside Cafe & Pizza Bar (Savai’i)

Eatery by day; karaoke lair by night… Well, at least on Friday nights. Harbourside Cafe & Pizza Bar is the go-to in Savai’i’s main town, Salelologa, if you’re looking for fun but relaxed vibes for your Friday evening.

Sit down with some Taula on tap, good food, and, hopefully, some good tunes complete with disco lights and all. You never know, by the end of the night you could be on your feet.

Friday Karaoke is from 6 pm to 10 pm. For more on Harbourside’s food, check out The Best Places to Eat in Samoa: 20 Best Restaurants in Samoa.

Location: Salelologa main road, a 2-minute walk north of the ferry terminal on Savai’i. You won’t miss the pink neon sign!

4. Miti Maninoa Beach Club Bar (Upolu)

Another laidback beach bar, this time on the sands of Maninoa Beach on Samoa’s main island, is brought to you by the beach fale accommodation, Miti Maninoa Beach Club.

The Ocean Club Bar not only has you Samoan staples of Taula and Vailima beer, as well as vai tipolo lemonade, but they also have spirits, wines and cocktails on the drinks menu.

For something non-alcoholic, delight in smoothies or soft drinks.

If you need refuelling, they offer a little more than the average beach fale bar with Samoan oka and taro nachos, Filipino spring rolls, chicken adobo and crispy pork trotters/knuckles or the usual burgers and fish and chips.

Learn more about visiting this beach, even if just for the day in the 10 Best Beaches in Upolu.

Location: Maninoa, signposted off Main South Coast Road between Mulivai and Si’umu villages on Upolu.

5. Lava Rock Bar – Bayview Resort (Savai’i)

Bayview Resort might be known for its unique lava field location and half-n-half open and closed fales (check out the 10 Best Resorts on Savai’i – they’re pretty cool), but its Lava Rock Bar happens to be one of the most popular bars on the island for locals too!

You can’t deny the hospitality here, as the bar is officially open 24/7 (don’t worry, resort guests, people do go home eventually) but you really get the sense that this bar is for the people.

Lava Rock is worth the venture on Friday and Saturday nights, usually with live DJs and/or karaoke, so check the “Bayview Accommodations” Facebook page for upcoming events.

Check out how this bar compares to the island’s other watering holes in the 6 Best Bars on Savai’i.

7. Hans Poolside Bar – Le Lagoto Resort (Savai’i)

Over on the island of Savai’i, Hans Poolside Bar is a relaxed yet upmarket establishment and also the bar of Le Lagoto Resort.

Happy hour is between 4 pm and 7 pm for 20% off all beers and cocktails.

For those looking for evening entertainment, Hans Poolside Bar hosts a fiafia night every Friday at 7 pm. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience Samoan culture through traditional dance and music.

On Sundays, don’t miss their “Barbecue Buffet & Live String Band”. The band starts at 6 pm, setting the perfect mood for the mouthwatering BBQ that kicks off at 7 pm.

8. JP Sports Bar (Upolu)

JP Sports Bar is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a vibrant atmosphere across two levels. Downstairs, you’ll find a lively sports bar where you can catch the game, shoot some pool, and enjoy bar snacks. Upstairs, the party really gets going with local DJs spinning tunes for the dance floor.

What sets JP’s apart is its fully air-conditioned venue – a welcome respite from Samoa’s tropical heat. They offer nightly drink specials, whether it’s beer buckets, cocktail combos or wine and beer jugs. If you’re not sure what to order, why not try one of the local favourites from our 10 Drinks in Samoa You Have to Try?

The cover charges are reasonable: typically ST$10 for downstairs and ST$25 for the upstairs area.

Location: Moamoa Road, Vaimea, Apia.

9. NightHawk (Savai’i)

If you’re looking for that “let your hair down and dance all night” vibe, this would be it. NightHawk is Savai’i‘s official nightclub, which is the most vibing on Friday and Saturday nights but look out on their Facebook page for party nights throughout the week.

There’s usually a small cover charge to get into the Salelologa hall with lights spinning and a local DJ doing their thing.

It’s recommended to go as a group; ask your hotel staff if they’re heading there to go with them (don’t worry, it’s not that weird).

For more nightlife tips, check out The Guide to Savai’i Nightlife + 5 Things to Do on Savai’i at Night.

Location: Salelologa, in the commercial centre on the western side of town (turn right at Lusia’s Lagoon Chalets), Savai’i.

10. Black Sands Casino (Upolu)

Unmissable on the Apia Harbour, mainly because it’s a multi-storey bright white building right next to the historic Aggie Grey Hotel, Black Sands Casino is Samoa’s only casino. This gambling joint is exclusively open to those 21 years and older, so don’t forget your passport or driver’s license for ID!

Inside, you’ll find gaming tables offering Poker (3 card & 5 card) and Blackjack, as well as slot machines to test your luck. Two full-licence bars keep the drinks flowing, with beer being the most popular choice (both local and international varieties are available). Feeling peckish? Don’t worry, snacks are offered on-site to keep you fuelled up for your gaming session.

Friday and Saturday nights are when the casino really comes alive, so if you’re after a buzzing atmosphere, that’s when to visit. The casino accepts AUD, NZD, USD and FJD, but keep in mind that winnings are paid out in Samoan Tala (ST).

It’s open seven days a week from 4 pm to 4 am, giving you plenty of time to try your hand at becoming Samoa’s next big winner!

Location: Beach Road, Apia (next to Aggie Grey’s Hotel).
